Parc del Pla de Fornells

C Nou Barris, 14

Pla de Fornells is a park that combines an eminently forest character with a very modern layout.

This green spaces starts in a small, paved square. It has a small pool with aquatic plants at the centre and parterres all around, with trees, shrubs and groups of flowers. Stairs give access to the various levels, which rise up along large landings connected by ramps. These are resting areas that look out over the city, and the higher the area, the better the view.
A large slope at the top is covered by forest plants that occupy over half the park. Use was made of the slope to build an amphitheatre where events are often held.

History

Pla de Fornells made it possible to link up and plan a large space between the last urban foothills of the Roquetes and Trinitat Nova neighbourhoods and the lower slope of the Collserola mountain range.

Biodiversity

The park is an extension of the Collserola range, dominated by holm oaks (Quercus ilex), Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis) and stone pines (Pinus pinea). Its landings are shaded by plane trees (Platanus x hispanica), stone pines and peppercorn trees (Schinus molle). There are also tipu trees (Tipuana tipu) while the little square at the main entrance contains eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus globulus), cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens), acacias (Robinia pseudoacacia) and pagoda trees (Sophora japonica).
