This year Barcelona is marking the 25th anniversary of the historic 1992 Olympic Games and Paralympics. City Council, along with other institutions, organisations and bodies in the territory, are organising a programme of activities to keep alive the memory of the Games and involve all the collectives, platforms and entities linked to the 1992 Olympic Games and the sporting scene in the city.

City Council has created the website to provide news and information on all the events taking place. The programme includes nearly thirty activities, with conferences, school activities and institutional acts.

The idea is for the city’s sporting network to be at the heart of the agenda and contribute with activities, either routine or purpose-designed for the occasion, to put together a programme between all sectors in the city. In short, the aim is to use the calendar to rekindle the collaborative and sporting spirit of Barcelona ’92.

The Mayor, Ada Colau, highlighted what the Olympic Games meant for the city at an act held in the Saló de Cent chamber at City Hall. The act signalled the start of the programme and involved representatives from all the institutions which took part in the organisation of the Games.

“The Olympic Games and Paralympics were not only a sporting event, but also a citizens’ event in the history of our country”, noted Colau.

The 22 sports venues which staged Olympic and Paralympic events will also be featured, with information on the sports events they held 25 years ago.

Josep Maria Trias, the creator of the logo for Barcelona ’92, has revamped the design for the occasion and included the date of the anniversary in it.
