Barcelona intends to be at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

Games. Ander Mirambell, Maria Hidalgo and Júlia Bargalló, are the Barcelona-based athletes aspiring to compete at the Games. The skier Adrià Diaz has already confirmed he will be taking part in the pair figure skating competition.

The Catalan winter season was presented at a ceremony in Barcelona on 16 November, putting the focus on the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which will be held in PyeongChang, in South Korea. Spain’s representation at the Winter Games is usually small – 20 of its athletes took part in the last games, in Sochi – but this time there is a strong possibility of 4 representatives from Barcelona taking part in the Games.

Here, however, Barcelona already has a safe bet with Adrià Díaz, the ice skater who will be competing in pair skating, accompanied by Olivia Smart. The pair came 18th in the World Championship, thereby confirming their place at the Winter Olympics. Others are still competing to secure their anxiously awaited place in the event.

Such is the case with Ander Mirambell, who is competing in the sliding sport known as skeleton; Maria Hidalgo, a surfer who excels in Snowboard Big Air and Slopestyle and Júlia Bargalló, a Giant Slalom skier. The coming months will see these three Catalan athletes competing to secure their place in the Games.

23rd Winter Olympics

The 23rd Winter Olympic Games will be held for 17 day, from 9 to 25 February 2018 in PyeongChang, in the Gangwon province, in the Republic of Korea. PyeongChang was chosen as the host city for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games after it received a majority of votes at the 123rd IOC session held on 6 July 2011, after three consecutive offers.
