Marcos Freitas, the champion of the 31st City of Barcelona International Table Tennis Trophy

Table Tennis. The best Catalan players and some the best-known on the international scene took part in the tournament.

The 31st edition of the City of Barcelona International Table Tennis Trophy was held this Saturday, 25 November, at the Poliesportiu La Salle Bonanova, with some of the best players in the world taking part. It was rare indeed to see international figures taking part in the Barcelona tournament from such a privileged global position.

For example, the world’s 3rd- and 6th-ranked players, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Jun Mizutani, took part, together with Marcos Freitas, Quadri Aruna and four of the best Catalan players, competing for the most prestigious prize in Spain and one of the most famous in Europe, on the afternoon of Saturday, 25th November.

It was the Portuguese player Marcos Freitas who finally carried off the championship, having won the finale against Dimitrij Ovtcharov.

25th anniversary of the Barcelona 1992 Olympics

While the last edition was special in being the tournament’s 30th, the 2017 edition was hardly lacking in commemorative appeal either, as this year’s City of Barcelona Table Tennis Trophy marked the 25th anniversary celebrations of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic and Paralympic Games
