The City of Barcelona's first Goalball tournament
Goalball. The first edition of the Goalball tournament is being held this weekend, from Friday to Sunday. This was a major sport in the Barcelona '92 Paralympic Games.
The City of Barcelona International Goalball Tournament is being held this weekend, on 17, 18 and 19 November, in venues belonging to the Once-Catalonia Territorial Delegation, in order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona ’92 Paralympic Games.
This international friendly tournament is a historic event, as this is the first time that a championship of this kind has been held with the participation of the Catalan national squad. The event has been organised by the Catalan Sports Federation for the Blind and Visually Impaired, with the collaboration of Barcelona City Council.
The tournament will be presented on Friday morning, at the installations of the Olympic and Sports Museum, where players of the competing teams will have a guided visit. The competition starts on Friday afternoon, and it will continue all day Saturday and Sunday morning.
The four teams competing to achieve the best classification in the Men’s category are: Catalonia, Germany, Algeria and Cantabria. The four teams in the Women’s category are: Catalonia, Belgium, Hungary and Aragon. The tournament ends on Sunday, with the women’s final starting at 1 pm and the men’s final at 2 pm.
