Would you know how to orientate yourself around the Olympic Ring?

• Orienteering races. This is the challenge faced by participants in the 11th International Trophy City of Barcelona Orienteering Races, taking place on 4 and 5 November in Montjuïc.

On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November, a new Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona de Curses d’Orientació (International Trophy City of Barcelona orienteering races at the Olympic Ring in Montjuïc. The event will take place as part of the ’92 Barcelona Olympic Games commemoration acts, and, to pay tribute to these games, the race course will be located in one of the most emblematic venues of the ’92 Olympic Games.

This year, the event – now in its 11th year – has grown in size, and it is open to everybody, with two races scheduled to start from the Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools in Montjüic. International clubs and teams will take part.

The middle-distance race will be held on Saturday 4, and the long-distance City Race Euro Tour, on Sunday 5 November. The winner will be determined by adding up the times obtained on both days of the race. In addition, the competition consists of various categories.

A little history

The International Trophy City of Barcelona Orienteering Races started as a team competition in which two top international teams were invited to compete, as a training and best technique initiative for junior and senior Catalan teams. In 2006, the Trophy coincided with the final heat of the Catalan Cup. In 2008, the England national team participated in the competition, and it was opened for the first time to teams from Catalan clubs.
