Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy 2030
The citizens and stakeholders that participate in the city’s food system have been working together to produce the Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy 2030, the roadmap for the coming years for transforming the current model and improving the health of people, economies and the planet.
To ensure the follow-up and implementation of the strategy, Barcelona City Council has created a new participatory body, the City Agreement for the EASSB2030, the space for public-private cooperation and joint action among the city’s institutions and organisations that are working to make the current food system healthier and more sustainable.

The Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy 2030 is guided by nine ambitious goals that lay out the road towards a fairer, healthier food system that is more respectful of the planet. These goals define our priorities and enable us to measure our progress in transforming the city’s food system.
-
Goal 1
Increase the production, sale and consumption of seasonal, local and organic food, involving sustainable fishing and animal welfare, in addition to distribution in shorter, fairer and more balanced food chains.
-
Goal 2
Protect, recover and promote urban and peri-urban agricultural areas.
-
Goal 3
Promote healthy, sustainable food for all.
-
Goal 4
Increase the resilience of the food system and guarantee the right to healthy and sustainable food.
-
Goal 5
Prevent food loss and waste.
-
Goal 6
Combat the climate emergency and the extinction crisis.
-
Goal 7
Promote a cultural and educational shift towards sustainable food.
-
Goal 8
Promote and foster fair relations in the food chain.
-
Goal 9
Coordinate and mobilise stakeholders in the food system to carry out specific and measurable actions and activities linked to existing strategies.
