An International Poetry Festival with seven voices

17/05/2022 - 18:30 h

The Barcelona Poetry Festival is icing the cake with another festival, the International Poetry Festival of Barcelona. On Wednesday, 18 May, at the Palau de la Música, it will celebrate its 37th edition with seven poets radically different from each other in terms of language, age, culture and lyrical proposal. The event, directed by Maria Cabrera and Josep Pedrals, who are also curators of the Barcelona Poesia, with music and artistic direction by Marina Herlop, will invite on its modernist stage Jordi Pàmias, Hirondina Joshua, Golan Haji, Marta Petreu, Angelo Néstore, Andrí Antonovskyi and Alice Oswald. In addition, there will be the musical participation of Helena Ros and Marta Torrella, the Tarta Relena. It is also worth mentioning the costume proposal of Rosa Tharrats. The recital will start at 8 p.m. and tickets, priced at 7 €, can be bought in advance.

Jordi Pàmias was born in Guissona in 1938, and in addition to poetry, he has also written theatre and essays in the form of memoirs. In 1999, he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi and, in 2018, the Premi Nacional de Cultura. Hirondina Joshua is a young poet from Mozambique, considered one of the most promising poets in Portuguese language, while Golan Haji is a Syrian Kurd currently living in Paris whose verses are marked by the experience of war. Also, you will be able to find the Romanian poet and intellectual Marta Petreu and the Ukrainian-Catalan Andríi Antonovskyi, who will bring his ironic, anti-war cry to the hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Angelo Néstore, a poet of Malaga-Italian origin and queer expression, questions the preconceptions of identities and turns the seams to show us the interior. Finally, Alice Oswald, a well-known British poet, winner of the TS Elliot Prize in 2002 and, 15 years later, of the Griffin Poetry Prize and the Costa Poetry Prize, in addition to many other distinctions throughout her career, will also take the stage.
