Cultura Viva is a programme to support community cultural practices of public value. Now, the Barcelona City Council has approved the incorporation of a complementary activity that will make it possible to offer cultural programming in small spaces, such as bars, restaurants, bookshops and galleries.

We are talking about the Espais Cultura Viva: establishments with a maximum capacity of 150 people, in which they carry out a stable cultural programme of at least 40 activities a year linked to live music, performing arts or any event related to contemporary art or popular culture.

So, if a venue wants to offer its clientele concerts, performances, readings or exhibitions, it can now do so! They will only need to check if they’re eligible for the Espais Cultura Viva category and make sure to meet the requirements. And if they need to adapt the venue, the City Council will offer a line of subsidies for investments in live music establishments. You can find more information through this link.

The new venues — called Espais Cultura Viva — recognise and strengthen small-format cultural activities, as they are a concept that promotes decentralised circuits, and support local commerce and cultural spaces, always respecting neighbourhood coexistence.
