Joaquim Rius is a Doctor of Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the Paris School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, and a Full Professor in Sociology at the University of Valencia (UV), where he teaches sociology of culture and sociology of social change.

Since 2015, he has been the director of the magazine Debats – Revista de cultura, poder i societat (Alfonso the Magnanimous Institution) and he is also the director of the Centre for Studies on Culture, Power and Identities at the UV.
