The municipal government, via the Commission for Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility, has presented a document entitled Compromís de Barcelona pel clima [Barcelona’s commitment on climate], outlining the city’s priorities in combatting climate change. Namely, energy management, the reduction of greenhouse gases, air quality and the fight against energy poverty.
The starting point for the document is the Citizen Commitment to Sustainability 2012-2022, which City Council and various organisations are adding to with new initiatives. At the end of November, Paris will be hosting the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference, the COP 21. For the event, Barcelona will clearly detail its commitment to the fight against climate change.
The Compromís de Barcelona pel clima document puts forward a series of initiatives for the city. The first is the creation of an Energy and Climate Change workgroup within the Citizen Council for Sustainability. The activity ‘Fem xarxing pel clima’ [let’s network for climate] will also take place on 27 October, an informative event on the issue. The municipal government is also to create a round table on climate and profile and support citizens’ initiatives to combat climate change.
