Backed by over a thousand cities, the initiative aims to cut carbon emissions with support from companies, regions and investors.

The cities belonging to the C40 network, including Barcelona, used the Climate Change Conference to present a campaign to cut carbon emissions and prevent future threats, create decent jobs and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

In all, 1,053 cities and local governments from 75 countries have signed up to the “Cities Race to Zero” campaign so far, between them representing some 880 million people. The goal is to reach 10,000 cities and to garner support from companies, regions and investors.

Large urban areas hold the get to tackling the climate emergency and inequalities. In this respect, the presentation of the campaign to get cities to make a commitment pointed to the Barcelona Superblock project and the energy distributor Barcelona Energia as examples.
