Energy transition. This is equivalent to the consumption of 11,684 households and will allow for a saving of 380,000 euros in energy costs for schools.

The city now has 341 schools connected to the public distributor of wholly renewable energy in which the Barcelona Metropolitan Area participates in. By connecting to Barcelona Energia, these facilities contribute to the energy transition and are both consumers and generators of renewable green energy.

Users now include all the city’s primary schools (161), its municipal nursery schools (103), and some all-through schools, secondary schools, special education centres, post-compulsory education centres, adult education centres, art schools and offices and services from the Barcelona Education Consortium. In all, 32 schools also have working solar power installations.

The volume of power supplied to connected schools is around 30,963,116 kWh, equivalent to the consumption of 11,684 households. This should allow savings of 380,000 euros in energy costs for schools.

After four years in operation, Barcelona Energia has supplied over 812 million kWh in renewable energy, representing a saving of 122,000 tonnes in CO2 emissions. The number of supply points has also risen by 180%, increasing from almost 4,000 initial points to the current 11,170. The energy supplied is equivalent to the consumption of 100,000 families.
