Climate emergency. Barcelona recently played host to the ICA Academy, on 16, 17 and 18 May, with a group of six cities for exchanging experiences on the fight against energy poverty.
The Moment Solar campaign aims to make the most of city rooftops to generate energy. Owner/tenant communities which sign up get support and subsidies throughout the process.
Improvements include new trees, lighting and paving in these gardens, protected a century ago, with the pedestrian section next to Passeig de Gràcia also enlarged.
Education. Seventeen city schools are redesigning their playgrounds with the programme ‘Transformem els patis’, adding more greenery, making them more coeducational and opening them up to the local neighbourhood.
Urban planning and infrastructures. Urban development work gets under way to create a large green space in the neighbourhood of Marina de Port.
Environment and sustainability. The stations belonging to the Atmospheric Pollution Monitoring and Forecast Network have recorded a drop in levels of particulate matter (PM10), allowing the warning to be deactivated.
Barcelona Energia. The annual energy consumption of these fourteen municipal councils will help avoid 25,000 tonnes of cardon dioxide.
Low Emission Zone. The report also points to a reduction of 609,000 journeys by the most pollutant vehicles, namely those without the DGT environmental badge.
Cuidem Barcelona. The Cuidem Barcelona campaign offers a special event full of music, workshops, murals and activities for people to discover the new fleet of cleaning and waste collection vehicles.
Urban planning. Work on the first section between Pl. Urquinaona and Pl. Antoni Maura gets under way on 1 March.
