Barcelona Science Plan
Extraordinary research and innovation grants in collaboration with "la Caixa" Foundation
Barcelona is a global and open city and, as such, faces challenges of great importance in various areas such as inequality, housing, climate emergency, energy transition, digitization of the economy and society, loss of identities, aging and, from 2020, recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Scientific research is, in most cases, the starting point for many of the cutting-edge solutions, committed to the environment and the social needs of citizens.
The plural and interdisciplinary collaboration between the sciences themselves and the entities and the third sector as a whole, the political sector (administrations and social movements), and the economic sector (companies, trade unions and cooperatives) is essential to advance in all these aspects and to build agreements to promote and rebuild post-COVID-19. Therefore, one of the priorities of the Barcelona Science Plan 2020-2023 is to establish a permanent dialogue between the City Council and the scientific ecosystem, with ambitious objectives for the city and for the scientific and technical community, and one of the ways to achieve this goal is through the consolidation of the line of grants for scientific and research activities to address the most urgent urban challenges.
Within the framework of the Barcelona Science Plan 2020-2023 and, more specifically, in the objectives of its second strategic axis, the Barcelona City Council, with the collaboration of the "la Caixa" Foundation, has published a new call for extraordinary grants aimed at funding scientific research projects.
Call for applications 2021
The announcement of the call corresponds to the grant programs planned for the years 2021 and 2022, and has a total allocated budget of 2 M€ of which 1.2 M€ will be provided by the Barcelona City Council and the other 800,000 € by the "la Caixa" Foundation. The distribution between both calls is 1 M€ for 2021 and 1 M€ for 2022.

Aging and quality of life.
