Art and science. They have an endowment of 6,000 euros each, and applications can be submitted between 30 December 2021 and 4 February 2022.
Barcelona City Council, through the Institute of Culture, will allocate more than one million euros to the development of creative proposals with the Barcelona Crea 2021 Grants. A total of 170 grants will be awarded, divided into eight categories and endowed with 6,000 euros each (1,020,000 euros in total). Ten of these grants are in the category of Creation in art and science.
The Barcelona Crea Grants are one of the actions of the second Measure of the Cultural Rights Plan and form part of the stable programmes of Barcelona City Council to support the cultural fabric and creation. The grants were created in 2020 as an exceptional measure, replacing the Ciutat de Barcelona Awards, to help alleviate the effects of the crisis caused by COVID-19 by promoting initiatives that would contribute to maintaining Barcelona’s cultural, educational and scientific dynamism and leadership. Based on the success of the call, and in order to continue supporting the cultural fabric and creation, the Institute of Culture has decided to turn this initiative into a regular call, while the City of Barcelona Awards 2021 will be revived.
In this edition, 10 grants will be awarded in the category of Creation in art and science. The grants in this category are aimed at supporting artistic creation proposals that incorporate the interrelation of artistic languages with scientific and technological languages. They can be proposed from any artistic discipline and approach science from any field of human knowledge, from experimental sciences and technology to the various fields of social sciences and humanities.
In all modalities, the proposals presented must be newly created and related to the city of Barcelona or its Metropolitan Area. Applications may be submitted between 30 December 2021 and 4 February 2022. Both individuals and legal entities, as well as groups of individuals, may apply. A jury will be appointed, made up of independent persons of recognised merit, specialists in the various fields. A virtual briefing session has also been organised for 19 January at 11 a.m.
