Citizen science in the neighbourhoods

Through some of the Office's citizen science projects, residents of different areas of Barcelona carry out real research with a direct impact on their neighbourhood.

In this programme, the facilities join the programme and act as the epicentre for meeting, preparing and discussing the projects, which involve various groups.

The neighbourhood, schools, the scientific community and local entities are the main protagonists of the research included in this programme. Thanks to these groups, Citizen Science in the Neighbourhoods is a commitment to strengthen the practices of participatory research that responds to the concerns of the people of Barcelona.

How does it work?

SVG
Posing a challenge

Posing a challenge

A social, environmental or health concern that affects the neighbourhood and mobilises civic centres, educational centres and various groups. The starting point is a research question, a hypothesis.

SVG
Data collection

Data collection

Field work and analysis to answer the initial question with tools, resources and support from existing citizen science projects.

SVG
Results and interpretation

Results and interpretation

The results are analysed and discussed collectively, including contributions from other citizen science projects.

SVG
Action

Action

The research process is presented to the public, along with recommendations for new policies that effectively address the concern that motivated the research.
