The 26th edition of the Barcelona Poesia festival will feature seven premieres and there will be around ninety activities between the official and parallel programmes.

The 26th edition of the Barcelona Poesia Festivall kicks off on 9 May. There will be eight days of recitals, performative actions, meetings with authors, tributes and book presentations that will be held all over the city, especially considering that in addition to the official programme there will be a parallel programme, called Més Poesia, with many activities organised by libraries, civic centres and various organisations. In total, some ninety activities, and poetry, in its many forms, will be present in all the districts.

Of the varied programme, the seven shows that will be taking to the stage for the first time stand out. The earliest of these seven, on the opening day itself, will be EL VIATGE de Roger Mas, a concert in which the singer-songwriter from Solsona reviews songs from all periods, but with a new composition as the central, half-hour-long backbone. Another premiere will be the dramatised reading Cels canviants, by the company Nurosfera, with text by Núria Perpinyà. Pitó, a play performed by Paula Blanco and with text by Guim Valls, can be seen at the Espai Francesca Bonnemaison on 11 May, and the following day will see the premiere of the poetic performance Doma, with Martí Sales and Dorian Wood, and a concert recital by Rafeef Ziadah and Remei de Ca la Fresca. The concert by Sabina Witt entitled El nom en el somni, created expressly for the festival and which can be seen on 13 May, and the concert-recital by Nacho Vegas Cantares dende’l pie, on the 14th, will also be premieres.

There will be many venues, although the gardens of the Casa de la Misericòrdia and the Vergel of the Frederic Marès Museum will host the most events. There will be moments dedicated to poetry in Asturian and Croatian. There will also be tributes to Jaume Pérez Montaner -on the occasion of his 85th birthday-, to the Manacor poet Jaume Vidal Alcover -on the occasion of the centenary of his birth-, and to the Argentinean author Alejandra Pizarnik -in 2022 it will be fifty years since her death. The company Els Pirates Teatre will perform a show entitled Brossa de carrer in Ciutadella Park, and Barcelona Poesia will enter the Poblenou Cemetery with Veus en dol, a community song to love, mourning and loss. Jan Wagner, Eloy Fernández Porta, Edgardo Dobry, Nú Miret, Maria Josep Escrivà, Xavier Mas Craviotto and Montserrat Rodés are just some of the other names taking part in the festival. And on the evening of Wednesday 10 May, in the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Hall, the Jocs Florals de Barcelona 2023 Poetry Prize will be awarded to Joan Tomàs Martínez Grimalt for Fosca Negra.

Barcelona Poesia will close on 16 May on the stage of the Palau de la Música Catalana with the 38th Barcelona International Poetry Festival. Reciters Ana Martins Marques, Blanca Llum Vidal, Danez Smith, José Eugenio Sánchez, Imad Abu Sàleh and Olga Novo, with music and artistic direction by Joana Gomila and Laia Vallès.
