With the titles Nostalgia for the Future: Crossing the Collapse and Surprise Box Grup d’Estudi, curated respectively by ArsGames and Grup d’Estudi, La Capella presents two new exhibitions running from 23 October to 2 January. Both are curated projects within the Barcelona Producció 2025 programme.

Barcelona Producció is an annual open call that supports contemporary art creation through production grants. The programme includes individual exhibitions, curated projects, off-site proposals, and publications, among other categories.

The two exhibitions — presented in Espai Rampa and Espai Capella — each explore distinct ideas through the works on view. In the first, Grup d’Estudi takes on an “anti-curatorial” approach, transforming the space into what they call a “surprise box.” The collective, made up of artists and curators, focuses on researching and cataloguing the many formats through which artistic production is publicly presented.

Meanwhile, ArsGames, an association that develops cultural projects linked to video games and new technologies, presents Nostalgia for the Future: Crossing the Collapse, a reflection on future imaginaries and the reasons why they so often appear limited to images of crisis. Are we, perhaps, orphans of the future?

This exhibition invites viewers to engage in an exercise of speculative archaeology: to imagine alternative futures where Andean quipus — data-recording systems made of knots — replace microchips as memory technology; where computation is fermented, vegetal, and symbiotic; or where infrastructures are designed not from extraction, but from interdependence.
