Science Is Celebrating!

29/05/2025 - 08:00 h

More than 160 activities will fill El Born, Plaça Comercial, and spaces in the Ciutadella area during the 18th edition of the Science Festival.

Anyone who wants to spend a science-filled weekend has a date on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1 at El Born – Barcelona History Museum and Plaça Comercial, where dozens of stalls will host all kinds of proposals and activities with one main goal: to share scientific knowledge with the public. Welcome to a new edition of the Science Festival.

El Born and the square in front of it won’t be the only venues. Facilities in the nearby Ciutadella Park, like the renovated Hivernacle (Greenhouse) and the Martorell Exhibition Center, are also part of the weekend program. In fact, both are central to the Ciutadella of Knowledge project, which this 2025 edition is part of.

The festival is organized with the help of 120 institutions, research groups, and organizations. You may already know some of the participants, but there are always new ones, such as “Quantum Magic” by the Catalonia Quantum Academy, presented in celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

You’ll find activities related to archaeology, physics, biology, solar observation, math challenges, and even reading corners. For the more active participants, there’s a scavenger hunt running all weekend, with a prize for those who can solve all the questions and crack the final puzzle.

On Saturday evening, from 6:30 PM to 11 PM, the festival explores the nocturnal side of science with a performance for youth and adults by Beyond Collapse, a group that combines music, artificial intelligence, and a twelve-voice choir to get everyone dancing.

Shows, talks, demonstrations, and exhibitions—this year’s Science Festival proves that science is a game worth mastering. Don’t miss the second edition of the Science Slam, where six short (five-minute) science talks compete, and the audience picks the winner.

If you don’t want to miss this event, head to El Born – Barcelona History Museum, but check the official website for full details before you go.
