The experience of living in the city

A cycle at Casa Golferichs Civic Centre analyses how tourism and gentrification have changed urban life.

If we look back at Barcelona’s past and compare it with the present, the differences in the way we live there today are abysmal. Global processes such as the massification of tourism and the gentrification of many neighbourhoods have changed the experience of living in the city.

CC Casa Golferichs brings together specialists in urban planning, anthropology, history, visual anthropology and photography to ask questions about dislocation, the loss of spaces of memory and the emotional impact of urban change. How are identities and social relations transformed when neighbourhoods change?

The cycle La meva Barcelona proposes four lectures, two exhibitions, three artistic mediations and a workshop to work on the subject from different points of view.

The programme opens with the lectures La ciutat humana a Barcelona: contra la urbanalització (28/01 – 19.00 h) with the town planner Francesc Muñoz, Joan Colom, viatger remot a una ciutat invisible (11/02 – 19. 00 h) with the visual artist Ricard Martínez, El repte de l’espai públic a la ciutat de Barcelona: realitat o ficció? (25/02) with the anthropologist Jose Mansilla and the conversation La nostra Barcelona… habitada. L’Eixample i l’esquerra de l’Eixample (25/02) with the historian Xavier Cazaneuve.

As for the exhibitions, on 29 February at 7 p.m. Linde opens (open until 26 February) with photographs by Myriam Meloni and Arnau Bach and on 5 March at 7 p.m. On la natura s’esvaeix with imaginery by Eugeni Gay, on display until 2 April.

Related to the photographic exhibitions, the cycle proposes three Insòlites experiences, visits with an alternative view that establish unexpected connections. There is the workshop La ciutat desitjada (15 and 22/01 – 18.00 h) and the artistic intervention (05/02 – 19.00 h) with artist Jaume Sangrà around Linde, as well as linked to On la natura s’esvaeix.  A proposal by Sintonitzacions (12/03 – 19. 00 h) with the artist Paula Vicente Puiggròs and the workshop Mapa emocional del barri (26/02, 5 and 12/03 – 17.00 h) and the presentation (26/03 – 19.00 h) given by the experts in visual anthropology Loreley Ritta and Víctor Villegas Campillo.
