15th Science Festival

The 15th Science Festival is coming

The great citizens' meeting with research and dissemination will be held on 28 and 29 May on the Rambla del Raval.

After two years marked by social restrictions, on 28 and 29 May, the 15th Science Festival recovers all its pre-pandemic splendour. 200 activities for all audiences, 150 entities related to research and dissemination, and 27 spaces are the most outstanding figures of this great meeting of citizens with scientific culture. With this edition, a new model of decentralised Festival is being launched, taking place in a different neighbourhood of Barcelona each year and seeking the involvement of local entities. This year, the Festival lands in the heart of the Raval.

The programme includes a wide range of workshops, experiments, installations, debates, micro-talks, games, visits and a long etcetera. Among the activities, there are new features such as a Scientific bingo, a game created expressly for this edition that will test the public's knowledge, and Elektrical body, mediation, a show that combines art and science through dance and a choreography inspired by electromagnetism. In addition, various academic institutions in the Raval will be inviting visitors to take guided tours of their historical spaces. Visitors will be able to discover the secrets of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia and the Casa de Convalescència de Sant Pau, headquarters of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.

In addition, classic activities of the Festival are returning to this year's edition. Examples include the Mathematical Challenges proposed by the Mathematics Museum of Catalonia, the Cryptographic Spies workshop, run by the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering, the Astronomical Observatory, a permanent activity run by the Aster association, and the Reading Space, with a selection of stories and books for all ages on loan from the Sagrada Familia-Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte Library.

The proposals are aimed at all age groups. Thus, the 0-6 Space will host activities for the very first ages, a lot of other activities will be aimed at families and children, and spaces such as the Micro-talks or the Debate Stage will host events designed for people aged 16 and over. Of course, there will also be proposals for all audiences, such as the shows by science communicator Dani Jiménez.

In terms of topis, the Festival will provide an opportunity to discover science, technology, health and the environment in all their dimensions. This year, moreover, there will be a greater emphasis on marine sciences and sustainability due to the celebration of four important anniversaries: the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development, the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, and the International Year of Glass. For this reason, the edition is debuting the new Oceans space and more than fifty proposals are included in the Environment category.

Likewise, the themes of the Festival cover all disciplines of research, from the most experimental to the social and humanistic: biology, medicine, physics, chemistry, astronomy, mathematics, technology, archaeology, linguistics, or the interactions between art and science, among others. On 28 and 29 May, come to the Rambla del Raval and discover them all.
