17th edition of Els Tres Tombs

On Sunday the 11th of May, numerous entities and collectives relating to the world of horses and carts will celebrate their traditional feast day in the Sant Antoni district

La Cavalcada d'Els Tres Tombs (literally, the Cavalcade of the Three Laps) is a tribute to cart makers, goods carriers and farmers which is celebrated in numerous parts of Catalonia during the Winter Carnival period and which, on Sunday, the 11th of May, will celebrate its main event in Barcelona.

The cavalcade brings together representatives from guilds and associations relating to the world of horses and carts in celebration of a popular feast day which originated early in the 19th century in honour of Saint Anthony the Abbot, or Anthony the Great.

Beginning at 7.30 am, guilds relating to horses and carts and including associations, representatives from roughly sixty villages around Catalonia, municipal and equestrian-related organisations, among many others, will begin gathering around the Montjuïc Magic Fountain to set off on the traditional route at 11.30 am, arriving at the plaza Sant Jaume around midday.

The celebration is possible thanks to the Catalonian Federation, Els Tres Tombs, which was founded about twenty years ago by numerous entities and organisations (Arca de Noé, the Associació de Veïns de Sant Antoni, the Germandat de Sant Antoni Abat and Sant Antoni Comerç) with the aim of revitalising and modernising the feast day celebrations.

This year, the band La Màlaga will present a rhumba especially written for the goods carriers on the evening of the 7th of May in FNAC Triangle. In addition, those interested may enter a photographic competition relating to the event. Entries may be presented up until the 15th of June.
