37th edition of La Tamborinada

This year’s popular festival, organised by the La Roda Foundation, takes its inspiration from the tercentenary celebrations and will take place in the Parc de la Ciutadella on Sunday the 1st of June

This year, with the collaboration of its 81 associate entities, the La Roda Foundation has taken upon itself to revive “La Tamborinada”, an open day of traditional games that was enjoyed by the city’s inhabitants some 300 years ago. On Sunday the 1st of June, beginning at 11 am, and thanks to the efforts of roughly a thousand volunteers who make the event possible, the Parc de la Ciutadella will host an extensive programme of activities for children which, in recent times, has been celebrated since 1977.

Under the slogan La memòria lúdica 1714/2014(Festive memory 1714/2014), this popular springtime festival and entertainment showcase will take place throughout the entire day and will include more than thirty workshops and twenty theatre, animation, magic, clown and puppet performance groups. The various groups, which include the Gremi dels Macips de Ribera i els Bastaixos, the Gremi dels Barretaires, the Gremi dels Dauradors, the Taverners, among others, will present their performances in various locations throughout the park.

Originally conceived as a means of representing the numerous entertainment activities carried out in the various districts of the city, this year, the La Roda Foundation have chosen the Parc de la Ciutadella because of its symbolic significance within the programme of the tercentenary celebrations: the park was eventually transformed from a castle for the subjugation of the population into a recreation and leisure area open to all the city’s inhabitants.
