The 3rd edition of WeArt Festival arrives

From the 11th to the 31st of October, the Transforma BCN space will host selected works from this year’s competition, which focused on the concept of the ego

The third edition of the WeArt Festival is just around the corner. The project began in Barcelona’s Born district in an effort to provide a platform for both the dissemination of new artists and dialog with the spectator.

The independent event offers five disciplines: Video Art, Street Art, Photography, Illustration and Plastic Arts, a variety of genres that emphasises the desire of the festival to promote and disseminate artistic hybridizations of all kinds.

The pieces on display are the result of the competition held throughout 2014 in which participants were obliged to present their pieces before the 15th of August, the subject matter in question being the ego. A committee consisting of academics and professionals from the art world were responsible for selecting the pieces to be displayed in the Transforma BCN space.

The exhibition opens on the 11th of October and, in addition to the selected pieces, rumour has it that the inauguration will be given an extra boost by means of a number of DJ sessions. Regarding the exhibition per se, the artists were given free rein to approach the idea of the self, one example being the Craje Collective, the team responsible for this year’s official poster, where the main objective of the team made up of Carla Rendón and Jessica Ruiz was to experiment with the depiction of the female.

Among other artists, the exhibition includes pieces by Victor Castillo, who also took part in SWAB 2014, the somewhat darker works of Marcello Castellani, Guilherme Kramer’s peculiar animals and the urban art and contemporary grandmothers of Marina Capdevila.

WeArt Festival can be seen from the 11th to the 31st of October in the Transforma BCN space. Entry is free and more information is available on the festival website.
