48hr Open House Barcelona opens the city doors once again
On the 25th and 26th of October the 5th edition of the architecture festival offers visitors an opportunity to acquaint themselves with historical buildings in both the city and in neighbouring areas
The 5th edition of 48hr Open House Barcelona once again opens the doors to numerous emblematic residences and buildings both in the city itself and in nearby areas. This year’s architecture festival includes a number of novelties, including a historical tour of Rafael Guastavino’s Catalan vault in Vilassar de Dalt as well as itineraries and proposals focusing on sustainable construction and the promotion of a trade fair for young architects entitled “mARQet d’Arquitectura”.
Every year the event brings together thousands of people and offers a golden opportunity for visitors to acquaint themselves with the city of Barcelona through its architecture, from the workers’ dwellings of Bon Pastor to the Casa Bloc house-museum in Sant Andreu. The festival also includes visits to the modern architecture of Hotel Park, the Macaya Palace, the work of Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the water towers of Catalana de Gas, the anti-aircraft shelter of the Plaça del Diamante, the Mediapro building, numerous private residences, and even a visit to the city’s sewer network.
Further additions to the programme include tours of Nou Barris, Vilassar de Dalt and Santa Coloma de Gramenet and two competitions: Opengram 2014, an Instagram rooftop competition, and Open Foto, which encourages participants to capture images or aspects of any of the buildings that form part of this year’s festival programme.
The 48hr Open House Barcelona architecture festival will take place on the 25th and 26th of October in numerous locations throughout the city and more information is available here.
