Barcelona is warming up for the sixth edition of Brazil Day and this year, in addition to the usual activities in the Moll de Marina, the Brazilian Culture Festival will present a series of films in the Cinemes Girona.

The festival day itself will consist of twelve hours of leisure and entertainment activities for all ages, beginning at 10 am with music and food on Sunday the 14th of September in the Moll de Marina. The event includes an extensive programme of musical concerts including samba, forró, soul, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, funk and hip-hop, with highlights that include the singer-songwriter talents of Ellen Oléria, the pop-rock and bossa nova-influenced rhythms of Wagner Pa & Brazuca Matraca, the musical craftsmanship of Peu Meurray and the samba-reggae percussion of Banda Querô. There will also be the now traditional capoeira sessions, culinary events and children’s corner.

In addition to the day of activities on the 14th, this edition of Brazil Day also offers a carefully selected series of nine Brazilian films that have garnered numerous awards in film festivals the world over. The series will be screened from the 18th to the 21st of September in the Cinemes Girona and will include films such as the animated Até que a Sbórnia nos separe (Till Sbornia Do Us Part), the drama Depois da chuva (After the Rain), which deals with the Brazilian transition period of the mid-80s following twenty years of military dictatorship, the documentary O mestre e o divino (The Master and the Divine), which deals with life in the village and mission of Sangradouro in the state of Mata Grosso, and the solitary portrait O homem das multidões (The Man of the Crowd), which was successful at the latest edition of the Barcelona Auteur Film Festival.

The activities programmed for Brazil Day on the 14th of September are free of charge and more information is available here. The sessions in the Cinemes Girona between the 18th and the 21st are priced at 5 euros and more information on the films is available here.
