The afrobeat of Dele Sosimi at Marula Café

This London musician of Nigerian origin will be performing in Barcelona on Saturday 15 December.

This is a must-see for fans of afrobeat: at 10pm on Saturday 15 December at Marula Café (C / d'Escudallers, 49), Dele Sosimi, considered by many to be the London leader of afrobeat, and without a doubt one of the most popular musicians active on the afrobeat scene around the world, will perform accompanied by the Afrobeat Orchestra. He is expected to interpret pieces from the full arc of his career, which began at the end of the 1070s with Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who is considered to be the creator of Afrobeat. For the uninitiated, we should explain that this music is a mixture of complex but danceable funk rhythms, traditional Nigerian music and African percussion, and often features a wind section and solos on other instruments, as well as rhythmic singing.

Bamidele Olatunbosun Sosimi – to give him his full name - is of Nigerian origin but was born in London in 1963, where he lives and teaches Afrobeat classes through his foundation and as a guest lecturer at London Metropolitan University . He was the musical director and keyboard player for groups such as Egypt 80 and Positive Force and, since 2002, has released several solo albums. Dele Sosimi has performed in venues around the world and at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Joe Zawinul's Birdland in Vienna, the Ollin Kan in Mexico City, and Musicas Do Mar in Portugal.
