“Alpha”, a crime drama directed by Joan Cutrina, opens in cinemas

The film maker has earmarked 10.000 euros for free tickets for the unemployed

Alpha, a crime drama based on real-life events that occurred in Barcelona, is the new film by Joan Cutrina, Catalan director and producer of documentary films such as Cara al Mar, One Dollar (El precio de la vida) and Professionals, the most dangerous bank robbers in Spain. The film opens in cinemas on the 8th of November.

In the light of the current crisis facing cinema houses all over the country, the director has earmarked a 10.000 euro surplus from the film’s production budget for the unemployed, an original initiative designed to boost attendance at Spanish films.

The film tells the tale of three young friends who end up separating at a certain point in their lives due to a botched attempt at robbery. Eight years after the event each of them have gone their own way: Eric is released from prison, Toni is a cop and Tom has become a crime boss.

Alpha stars Miquel Fernández, Alex Barahona and Juan Carlos Vellido and features Irene Montalà, Adolfo Fernández and Alexandra Mezcua, better known as Daniela Blume, in her first dramatic role. Other collaborators in the film include chef Sergi Arola and author Daniel Estulin.
