The Americana will open with the screening of ‘Saint Frances’

The Americana has arrived

The Girona and Zumzeig Cinemas are hosting the programme of the North American film festival.

Once again, the Americana, the American independent film festival in Barcelona, is set to open, an event you simply can’t miss. The 2020 edition will take place from 3 to 8 March and, as always, it will bring you films that stood out in festivals like Sundance or the Tribeca, which would probably never reach our screens if it weren’t for the Americana team. The festival will open on Tuesday 3 March at 8.00 pm with ‘Saint Frances’, a story with a feminist perspective about Bridget’s personal growth, a young woman who realises that she has no goals in life. There are other must-watch films, like Kevin Smith’s latest and highly publicised film, ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot’; ‘The Projectionist’ by Abel Ferrara, one of the prominent names in the festival; or the comedy ‘The Death of Dick Long’ directed by Daniel Scheinert, who brought us ‘Swiss Army Man’ four years ago.

The Americana is held in two main venues: in three screening rooms of Cinemes Girona and Cinema Zumzeig. Nevertheless, the festival will open in Sala Phenomena, the short film session will take place in La Casa del Cine, and there will be a special cycle in the Filmoteca de Catalunya about the documentary filmmaker, Steve James.

Tickets for one session cost €7.00, but the Americana offers a special pass for €35.00 allowing entry to six sessions. You can consult prices, special offers and buy your tickets at this link.
