Animalarium

The Museu Blau opens the Animalarium exhibition of Miguel Aparici.

The exhibition, which consists of thirty animal sculptures created from disused objects and eight paintings done with a spoon and coffee, will be displayed in the Espai Ciència i Més until September. The author does not create from photographs but from his memory. The result is the Animalarium universe, a sort of imaginary zoo that shows wit, tenderness and humor.

Miquel Aparici (Barcelona, 1963) studied graphic design at the Escuela Massana of Barcelona and is currently the artistic director of the satirical magazine "El Jueves", an activity that combines with creating sculptures and paintings of animals. Aparici recognizes that he always wanted to join his two passions: biology and art. It all started one summer when he drew a lizard in Formentera island with coffee stains and a spoon as brush. It was 2000 and he  managed to exhibit in galleries in New York and Germany. A few years later he decided to tackle a new challenge, he wanted to transform his drawings into three dimensions, creating wire sculptures of animals or objects into disuse. Since then it has built  about 350 sculptures of animals of all kinds, from a life-size elephant to tiny insects.

Aparici animals have visited galleries in Barcelona (René Metras Barnadas Jordi, Loft, Llucià Homs, Moncada, Art Windows, Victor Lope) and worldwide (Spain, Germany, Italy and the United States).
