The Apps&Cultura awards ceremony will take place on the 31st of October in the Mobile World Centre

Apps&Cultura is a competition promoted by the Barcelona Culture Institute (ICUB) in an effort to select, from among 18 aspirants, the best mobile phone apps for cultural promotion in the city

A total of 18 mobile phone apps are candidates for entry into the final phase of Apps&Cultura, a competition organised by the Direcció de Creativitat i Innovació and promoted by the Barcelona Culture Institute (ICUB) with the collaboration of AppCircus in an attempt to promote culture with the aid of mobile phones. The final awards ceremony will take place this Friday, the 31st of October, beginning at 6 pm in the Mobile World Centre. Online voting for the general public to select their favourite app was open on this webside uuntil the 22nd of October, and it is now possible to attend the awards ceremony by registering, free of charge, here.

The finalists will each have three minutes in which to convince the prestigious jury that theirs is the best app for promoting and disseminating culture in Barcelona. The winner will win 6000 euros plus a nomination for the Mobile Premier Awards 2015.

There will also be an award of 2000 euros for the app with the most innovative concept and 500 euros for the app most voted by the public.

In addition, the three winners will go through to the second phase of the project, in which Apps&Cultura will initiate its acceleration process with the participation of some of the city’s most important players in the innovation and entrepreneurship fields, who will support them in the development of the business aspects of their projects.

The apps that are opting for the Apps&Cultura final are divided into four categories. The category for apps that offer personalised experiences includes WeSwing, an app for dancers, musicians, schools and brand names relating to the world of swing; App per festes majors, which allows users who are attending, or going to attend a party, to connect at any moment; Coolturer, which allows users to find out about, get information on, and participate in any cultural event happening in the city; Festook, an intelligent recommendation system for concerts in which the user specifies their favourite bands and the app constructs a schedule of possibilities, and Cartellera Cinema, the only app in Catalan with information on films currently showing in Catalonia.

In the category for apps developed to help information on cultural events reach the general public the aspirants include Pim Pam Plan, a web platform which, in conjunction with an app for SmartPhones and another for SmartWatch called Galaxy Gear, users can find a series of cultural proposals in accordance with their preferences; Creappcuentos, a tablet-based app that allows users to create unique and original stories in just a few steps and in the language of their choice; Augmented songbook, an Android augmented reality app that facilitates awareness-raising and musical learning in children using a popular Catalan songbook as reference, and Enseñame a leer, an interactive story with three levels of difficulty designed for progressive reading practice in children aged 5 to 7.
