Apropa Cultura extends its initiative

Apropa Cultura is a programme that facilitates access to culture for people with disabilities or who run the risk of social exclusion. Since it began seven years ago in L’Auditori, numerous theatres, concert halls and museums have joined the initiative.

Apropa Cultura currently consists of 40 cultural institutions distributed throughout Catalonia and more than 1100 registered social centres and the programme has facilitated access to cultural offerings for as many as 58,000 people over the past six years.

In Barcelona this season, 13 institutions will take part in Apropa Cultura. Regarding what can be considered as performance centres, L’Auditori, the Mercat de les Flors, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Festival Grec, the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and the Teatre Lliure all offer seats for their music, theatre, dance and circus programmes at very reduced prices and, beginning this season, will offer participating social centres the possibility of free, or very cheap, tickets to a number of productions, including One-hit Wonders, by the Sol Picó Dance Company in the Mercat de les Flors, concerts by Refree and Marc Parrot in L’Auditori, and plays such as Henry V and The Caretaker in the Teatre Lliure and the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream which Joan Ollé will present in November in the main theatre of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.

With regard to art centres, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, the Museum of Music, the CaixaForum, the MACBA, the CCCB, the Picasso Museum and the Miró Foundation will all offer free guided or dramatized visits and workshops to the aforementioned collectives.
In addition, every season Apropa Cultura organises courses targeting social educators in an effort to encourage the presence of art and culture in the everyday lives of those who form part of these collectives.
