Some musicians from the Banda Municipal de Barcelona

L'Auditori is settling in Broadway for two mornings

The Banda Municipal de Barcelona and the company Els Pirates will be performing well-known melodies by Kander, Bernstein, Faust and Lloyd Webber.

It's not common to see weekday matinee concerts on the bill. However, L'Auditori has decided to open its doors on the mornings of Thursday and Friday, October 13 and 14 to let in a handful of the best-known melodies from Broadway musicals. Both concerts, named Apropa't a Broadway, will be performed by the theatre company Els Pirates and the Banda Municipal de Barcelona, conducted by Carlos Ramón. With concerts starting at 11.30am, this is a perfect proposal for schools and high schools to attend but is open to everyone

From all the songs that could have been chosen — there are more than forty theatres on this famous Manhattan avenue, many of which have musicals on their schedules and dozens of which have become world-famous, often thanks to their film adaptations — the organizers have decided to go with excerpts from Chicago (with music by John Kander), Cats (Andrew Lloyd Webber), Cabaret (Kander) and West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein). They won't play specific songs from each musical but rather a mixture of the most emblematic songs that make them up. The Banda Municipal de Barcelona will also perform On Broadway, a ten-minute-long piece of fast-paced music written by Willy Faust. In short, two matinees designed to let yourself be carried away by the magic and energy of musicals and travel, even if only with your spirit or your thoughts, to New York.
