Ivan Massagué and Marta Bayarri

A night to find out what you really want

Ivan Massagué and Marta Bayarri are taking the stage at La Villarroel in a play directed by David Selvas.

La Villarroel is rounding off the year with a play that makes a nod towards Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Much like the Bard’s play, the synopsis states that in Aquella nit (una obra de teatre amb cançons) – the Catalan version of the play Midsummer – the protagonists "find out that what they think they want and what they really want are completely different things." And who are these protagonists? There are only two characters in the entire play: Helena, a divorce lawyer who’s involved with a married man and Bob, who's given up on his dreams of becoming a writer and makes a living off of barely legal jobs. Fate leads them to meet in a bar and spend a weekend together which will change their lives.

Ivan Massagué and Marta Bayarri will bring playwright David Greig’s characters to life. As the title would suggest, songs are an important element in the production and the ones in question were composed by Gordon McIntyre. At La Villarroel musicians Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou will be performing them. All directed by David Selvas. Cristina Genebat translated Greig’s text and McIntyre’s lyrics into Catalan.

You’ll have the chance to see Aquella nit (una obra de teatre amb cançons) at La Villarroel starting from 4 January, although the official premier is a little later, on the 9th. More information here.
