ArquinFilm – Film and Architecture, in the Filmoteca

From the 12th to the 18th of June the ArquinFilm programme will feature a series of non-fictional films that reveal the many ways of approaching the profession of architect

From the 12th to the 18th of June the Filmoteca de Catalunya will host ArquinFilm, a festival of non-fictional films that focus on the profession of architect. The festival has been organised in collaboration with ArquinFad and will include a series of recent films from a variety of countries.

The 12th of June will see the screening of the documentary The Competition, directed by architect Ángel Borrego. The film reveals the battle between five renowned architects for the contract for the future National Museum of Andorra and which will be presented by the director himself and fellow architect Fèlix Arranz. The 13th will see the turn of the documentary Cathedrals of Culture, which attempts to reveal the soul of six iconic and very different buildings through a series of six chapters which will be screened in their entirety, each chapter having been directed by a renowned film maker, among them Win Wenders, Michael Glawogger and actor-director Robert Redford, The presentation will be made by the architecture studio Flores Prats Arquitectes.

The 14th will feature a double session with Divine location – A city reinvents itself and Bernardes, two documentaries that explore distinctive visions of architecture and social transformation. The 16th will see the turn of Dreaming of a Tree House, a film by Beate Lendt about the pioneering ecological architecture project by Frei Otto in Berlin that will be presented by Robert Brufau, Alfons Soldevilla and David Soldevilla.

Wednesday the 17th will feature another double session with Rafael Gómez's short film Acció combatre el fred and the full length film by Sam Wainwright Douglas, Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio, two projects designed to provide homes for socially underprivileged groups in locations as far apart as Barcelona and Alabama. An finally, the 18th will see the screening of the Guillaume Meigneux documentary Slightly Modified Housing, with presentation by the director accompanied by Xavier Ros. The film documents the refurbishment carried out on a Parisian residential building from the perspective of the residents, who at no point are obliged to move out.
