BAM and Mercè Música announce the first names on the programme

From the 19th to the 24th of September artists from around the world will perform in locations throughout the city in celebration of La Mercè

Barcelona Acció Musical (BAM), which is held during the La Mercè fiesta, has announced the programme for its 22nd edition. The confirmed performers include such varied styles as the afro-funk rhythms of Ibibio Sound Machine, the Spanish electronic texture quartet, Viento Smith, the Detroit post-punk band, Protomartyr, and Philadelphia’s young pretenders, Modern Baseball. The programme also includes the alternative hip-hop of Scottish band, Young Fathers, the psychedelic pop of French quartet, Moodoïd and the electronic cumbia of El Remolón + Vj Oviedo Opendesktop.

Regarding Catalan groups, the programme includes the garage-punk trio Aliment, the atmospheric pop duet, Desert, and El Último Vecino, a techno-pop formation from the Barcelona underground scene. At this juncture the BAM 2014 programme is completed by Postiljonen and Zhala from Stockholm, this year’s guest city.

On another note, Mercè Música, the musical programme for the city’s “festa major”, will bring music to the streets of Barcelona with the legendary Orquestra Plateria, who will offer the first concert of their final tour after 40 years on the stage; vocal group Ol’Green, the flamenco of Salao Eléctrico y Argentina and the traditional songs of Pep Gimeno, “Botifarra”.

The remainder of the programme, as well as venues and times, will be announced at the beginning of September.
