Bar Núria reopens its doors in Canalet

The landmark venue, founded in 1930, opens its doors on the 7st of March with a renovated menu, a permanent exhibition and the challenge of returning to its origins

Bar Núria, one of Barcelona’s most emblematic bars and a characteristic feature of La Rambla de Canaletes, reopens its doors on the 7st of March in an attempt to return to its origins. The bar was founded in 1930 and has been temporarily closed for a complete refurbishment which includes, among other aspects, an improved menu and an additional promise to reclaim La Rambla as a public space, a meeting point for inhabitants and visitors alike: the nerve centre, or hub of the city, so to speak.

Visitors to the revamped Núria will be treated to a permanent collective exhibition by illustrators who have depicted the city’s recent past in a series of nine murals dedicated to the nine decades of the bar’s existence. Artists include the likes of Toni Batllori, Miquel Ferrerres and Nazario Luque. In addition, on the weekends, music and cuisine will combine in a new proposal entitled Vermouth and Rhumba.

With its privileged location, Bar Núria has been a first-hand witness to some the most relevant events in the idiosyncratic history of the city, such as the proclamation of the 2nd Republic, the first protest marches of the democratic era, or the celebrations of F.C. Barcelona’s triumphs and Sant Jordi Day.
