A new edition of the Barcelona Design Week

Curator Paola Antonelli will be the speaker at the inaugural conference of the event.

Barcelona Design Week (BDW) reaches its 15th edition organized by the Barcelona Design Centre. This year’s BDW’s motto is ‘Design Activism. A Call to Action’ and seeks the reflection on the role of design as a tool to achieve the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). It does this with more than 80 activities, conferences, workshops and exhibitions that will take place virtually, although some of them can also be enjoyed in person.

The inaugural conference of the BDW will be given by Paola Antonelli, senior curator of the Museum of Modern Art, under the name ‘There Is Always a Design Emergency’ to talk about activist design. One of the series of forums and talks is called ‘The genre of design’ and focuses on one of the 17 Objectives, the gender equality. Also noteworthy is the ‘Dialogues for Activism’ cycle, which will address current issues in the world of design. During the BDW there will also be exhibitions such as the Museu del Disseny exhibitions, ‘Modernism’ and ‘Emergency!’, or the exhibition of the FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design 2020 at the COAC.

The BDW will take place from the 17th to the 26th of November and the activities are free. The vast majority require prior registration which you can do from the link to each activity in the program.
