Barcelona International Comic Fair – 32nd edition

This year’s event will take place from the 15th to the 18th of May and will focus on war comic books

For yet another year, pavilions 1 and 2 of the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc will be given over to the Barcelona International Comic Fair, organised by FICOMIC. For four days, noted authors of the genre will meet with readers in a programme of activities that includes signings, workshops and conferences.

This year, to coincide with the tercentenary celebrations of the events of 1714, the centenary of the beginning of World War I and the 75th anniversary of World War II, one of the central subjects of the fair will be war comic books.

Comics in wartime is the title of an extensive exhibition, conceived as an installation, which will provide a retrospective on war vignettes with more than 200 originals on display. In addition, as part of the educational activities developed by the Department of Education of the Generalitat, historians and authors will take part in debates and conferences on the subject.

The 32,000 m2 of pavilion space will also host retrospectives dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Batman and the 40th anniversary of Wolverine as well as the awards ceremony for last year’s fair. Visitors to this year’s fair will include Joe Sacco, Manuele Fior, Audrey Spiry, Andrew Wildman and R. M. Guéra, among others, and there will also be an area designated for meetings between amateur authors and national and international publishers.

Access to the fair will granted from 10 am on Thursday the 15th of May at a price of 7 euros (one person, one day). More information is available on the FICOMIC website.
