International Dance Day

The best ways to celebrate World Dance Day

29 April is a special day for anyone interested in dance and movement and it will be celebrated in Barcelona simultaneously in a number of public spaces

International Dance Day is on 29 April and anyone interested in dance will want to take part in the myriad activities scheduled for and around that date in Barcelona in many of the city’s civic centres. These events include workshops and talks aimed at promoting dance and increasing people’s knowledge of the art form. Here we would like to recommend five of these activities.

Among the many activities on offer, and we recommend that you consult the programme for information on what’s going on at each centre, we would like to highlight the agenda at Casa del Rellotge, in the Marina neighbourhood, where the Los Moñecos company, who are participating in this year’s Dansat Festival, will be performing one of their own dance pieces, We-Ding! on 28 April.  At Centre Cívic El Sortidor in Poble-sec you’ll be able to see a demonstration of vertical dancing with Una ilusión de la Golconda on 29 April, while at Centre Cívic Sant Martí there will be a more general celebration of International Dance Day with the participation of the neighbourhood’s schools on 7 May. There will also be a complete day celebration at Centre Cívic de la Barceloneta on 28 April, with workshops, masterclasses and performances. Finally, we would like to recommend that you head for Casa Elizalde on 26 April, where you will hear all about the history and development of dance with an event that lies half way between a dance representation and an educational conference.

If you’d like to find out more, check out the links in this text or the programme of events at your nearest civic centre.
