One of the most-acclaimed artists of 2013 returns to Barcelona on the 26th of February
One of the most-acclaimed artists of 2013 returns to Barcelona on the 26th of February North American singer songwriter Bill Callahan returns to the city during what could be described as one of the high points of his extended career. Having released upwards of 15 albums, several of which were released pre 2007 under the alias "Smog", the Maryland-born artist appears to be enjoying the greatest recognition he has yet experienced, at least in terms of media presence. His latest release, Dream River, has appeared in a number of “Best of 2013” compilations, both in specialised media as well as in culture supplements of more general media.
Over twenty years, Bill Callahan’s music has evolved from lo-fi, home-made, somewhat impenetrable productions to more serenely professional later works, and it would appear that a window as been opened and a fresh breeze has had a rejuvenating effect on a songwriter who, at the same time, refuses to renounce the weight of experience even though the experience in question has had more than its fair share of ups and downs.
Behind all this, however, remains the unmistakeable voice and phrasing of Bill Callahan, where silence and what is left unsaid are just as important as that which is expressed. The concert is programmed for the 26th of February in the BARTS.
