Sweet Marta & The Blues Workers

Blues in January at Poble Espanyol

Simews Shocks, the Barcelona Big Blues Band and Sweet Marta & The Blues Workers are among those scheduled to perform

Organised by the Escola Taller de Blues de Barcelona, the Winter Cycle of Blues and Swing is bringing lots of live music to Poble Espanyol this month. One of the stand-out concerts is scheduled for Saturday 14 January, with a long three-hour session that will begin at 8.30 with an appearance by Simews Shocks, an up and coming quintet from Escola de Blues made up of a combination of ex and current students. Following a brief pause it will be time for the Barcelona Big Blues Band, a band led by double-bass player Ivan Kovacevic that is devoted to accompanying top artists in the genres of blues and rhythm and blues. In this case they will be sharing the stage with Jonathan Herrero, the founder of A Contra Blues, a collaboration that met with acclaim at Jamboree on 23 October last year.

The evening of 14 January will take place at the Hivernacle del Poble Espanyol, while the other concerts will be held at the Escola de Blues, inside the Poble Espanyol complex. On January 21st it’s time for Los Locos del Oeste y su Loco Country Jazz, a trio made up of Mario Cobo, El Lega and Javier R. Cortés who blend Hawaiian sounds with jazz melodies to transport their listeners to the middle of the 20th century, before the birth of rock. The entertainment on 28 January will be delivered by Sweet Marta & The Blues Workers, a formation that began playing together in 2013 and who branch our into all of the styles of blues. Concerts will begin at 9pm and the fun will continue until 1am with DJ sessions.
