El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria

75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz

The Born CCM is commemorating the anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

It is often said that those who are ignorant of history are condemned to repeat it, and we would also be right in saying that the Holocaust was one of the worst atrocities of the 20th Century, and we have to remember it so that it can never be repeated. Auschwitz avui, 75 anys després” is a day focused on filling in the gaps in our memory and reflecting on the past. You can take part in the events that will be held in different rooms at El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria. There will be a screening of the film, I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians, a dark comedy that tackles the need to keep going over historic events, a drawing workshop based on a reading of the Holocaust archives, panel discussions on remembering Auschwitz, failure to pass down memories and the bearing that this part of history has on the present day. The main event will be a presentation by Montse Iniesta, the head of the centre, and Jordi Rabassa, the Councillor for Democratic Memory in Ciutat Vella.

“Auschwitz avui, 75 anys després” will start at El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria on Sunday, 26 January at 10.45 am with the inaugural event and will end at 8 pm. You can check the times of the activities here.

Tickets are free but it is recommendable to book the activities in advance on this link or at the centre’s ticket offices. You can also book by sending an email to reserveselbornccm@eicub.net or calling 93 256 68 50.
