Carillon of the Palau

Carillon concerts in Palau de la Generalitat

The carillon player at the Palau, Anna Maria Reverté, in concert on 1 March and 5 April.

On the first Sunday of every month, the Palau de la Generalitat fills with carillon music played by Anna Maria Reverté, the official carillonist. This singular instrument is made up of 49 bronze bells, which cover a range of four chromatic scales, therefore giving it the category of concert carillon. It was inaugurated in 1976, a few months before the restoration of the Generalitat, thanks to the effort of the carillonist Maria Dolors Coll. Although the sound of carillon music fills the streets of the Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) practically every morning, the Palau programmes seasonal concerts on the first Sunday of each month at 12.00 noon. You can enjoy the next one on 1 March and the following will take place on Sunday 5 April.

The concert held on 1 March will offer a varied programme, including works by Mozart and Satie, as well as soundtracks from films like Casablanca’ and ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. The concert will begin with a sardana composed in 1954 by the master Joaquim Serra i Coromines, and will include a diversity of musical styles with the aim of demonstrating the versatility of this instrument, upon which any type of melody can be played.

The carillon concerts can be heard from the Pati dels Tarongers (Orange Trees Court) or the Galeria Gòtica (Gothic Gallery) and admission is free of charge. You can register your attendance here until the Thursday before the concert or the venue is full.
