John Williams

A journey through John Williams’s soundtracks

He is the creator behind scores in films such as Superman, E.T., Schindler’s List, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter.

Soundtracks are an essential part of many films. We’ll go one step further: there are many films that, after time, viewer end up remembering more about the music than about the plotline or the actors that star in them. There are plenty of prestigious soundtrack composers out there, but there’s one who’s broken all the records: John Williams. He's the living person who's received the most Oscar nominations: 51! He’s won a total of 5, as well as many other awards. The list of films that he’s lent his composing skills to will make your hair stand on end: Home Alone, Superman, E.T., Born on the Fourth of July, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, The Patriot, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter sagas, etc. This concert has been scheduled at Palau de la Música for 14 December and will take you on a journey through fragments of these soundtracks by the American composer. It is entitled “A Celebration of John Williams”.

Since this concert is all about mainstream American cinema, who better to perform it than The Hollywood Symphony Orchestra? This ensemble, founded by John Scott, started putting on concerts in 2006. The current director is John Beal. Many members of the orchestra are recording musicians at film studios in Hollywood and their concerts are normally set against the backdrop of a screen showing images from the film from which they are playing the soundtrack.

The concert will start at 10.30 pm. For more information and tickets, click here.
