The Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música is celebrating its 25th anniversary

The concert programme is to include the interpretation of Handel’s oratorio Israel in Egypt.

Younger sister to the Orfeó Català and an ambassador of Catalonia all over Europe, the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música is a musical institution that has made excellence its way of life. The 22 voices that it is made up of demonstrate during every recital a refined artistic level that exemplifies Catalonia’s rich choral tradition. The choir’s goal is to cultivate universal choral music while laying a special emphasis on the recovery of the Catalan cultural heritage.

Now, this consolidated formation is celebrating its 25th anniversary by sharing with its public all of the stylistic wealth brought to bear during its recitals, which feature compositions that range through time from the Renaissance to the contemporary period. For this special occasion, the choir has chosen Handel’s oratorio, Israel in Egypt.

The choir’s resident conductor Josep Vila i Casañas will lend a new reading to one of the most important works of the creator of the Messiah, a gem of choral song that narrates the episode from the Old Testament in which Moses takes on the Pharaoh with the aid of seven plagues. It’s also one of Handel’s most characteristic works, featuring a great vocal exuberance and epic melodies.
