Chinese New Year 2020

Chinese New Year with Barcelona

This year the city’s Chinese community will be celebrating the start of the Year of the Rat.

Chinese New Year is a really important event for Chinese people and is celebrated around the world. Here in Barcelona, this is a time that the Chinese community, made up of around 20,000 people, also uses to share their culture with everyone who wants to take part.  According to their traditional calendar, this year is 4718, which falls under the zodiac sign of the Rat. Thanks to the participation of some 1,500 volunteers, organisations such as Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona and Casa Àsia, this year’s celebrations will include a parade, a cultural and gastronomic fair and various shows. The Barcelona City Council also collaborates in this and this event forms part of the  #CelebremBCN campaign.

You can join in the festivities for the Chinese New Year on 1 February on Passeig Lluís Companys, where you’ll find a gastronomic fair from 10 am to 8 pm. There, from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, and 5 pm to 7 pm, there will be a stage where you’ll have the chance to see all the shows. The parade will start at 11.30 am at Parc de l’Estació del Nord.

This is a great opportunity to learn about and enjoy a culture that forms part of Barcelona.
