The Museu Frederic Marès and the Monastery of Perdralbes will exhibit the usual traditional nativity scenes

Christmas arrives in Barcelona

Nativity scenes, exhibitions, lights and more activities will fill the city during the holidays in an atypical Christmas.

Although this Christmas will be a bit different, Barcelona proposes a lot of activities so we feel it a little closer. If you like to visit nativity scenes, you don’t have to go very far: the Museu Frederic Marès will be exhibiting Barcelona’s traditional nativity scene in the Museum’s Patio, which will once again be the work of the Associació de Pessebristes de Barcelona. The montage, which was created during lockdown, will be a landscape reminiscent of a coastal village in the Mediterranean and will compare the migrations nowadays with the ones from two thousand years ago. You can visit it from November 28 to February 2. On the other hand, the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes will also have its nativity, which this year will consist of two dioramas of the life of Jesus with figures by the sculptor Montserrat Ribes. You can see it from December 12 to February 2. Both visits are free and you must make a reservation in advance from the link of each site.

For more nativity scenes, you can also go to the exhibition ‘Ten years of nativity scenes in Plaça de Sant Jaume’, where there will be a tour of the inner courtyard of Barcelona City Council with different elements recovered from the works on display. It will open on December 4 and can be seen until January 5. In addition, this year the façade of the City Council will be illuminated in a special way: with the lights of #RavalKm0, a project of solidarity and commitment.

Finally, one of the most special activities from every year is the carol singing that will take place on December 20 at Pla de la Seu. Different children choirs will be singing from 11 am to 2 pm and Coral Sant Jordi will join at 4 pm.

You will find more information about the nativity scene in the Museu Frederic Marès on this link, and about the one in the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes on this other link. If you want more information on the Christmas in the city you can check the Barcelona City Council’s Christmas website from next Saturday, November 28.
