L’Alternativa, the festival that champions overlooked films

The Barcelona Independent Film Festival is now in its 26th year, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down.

For the past 26 years, l’Alternativa has provided an outlet for overlooked films, giving the city’s movie-goers and professionals a unique opportunity to discover and enjoy screenings and activities that define diversity, creativity, freedom, commitment and reflection. As proof of this, this year the festival is paying tribute to a historic event that became a symbol of many of these principles: the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989. To celebrate it, the festival has prepared a parallel section with documentaries showing social, political and cultural situations before and after reunification. Additionally, there will be an official section of international films with 10 feature films and 12 short films, plus the national section with 18 short, medium and feature films. In this category, for the first time this year l’Alternativa is giving out a cash prize to the best Spanish film.

The Barcelona Independent Film Festival will be held from 11 to 17 November at various times. Most of the l’Alternativa events will take place at Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, but there will also be some at Filmoteca de Catalunya, Zumzeig cinema, Centre d’Estudis i Recursos Culturals and Escola de Cinema de Barcelona.

You can get single or season tickets for various prices. They are all available on the l’Alternativa website.
